Private eBike Tours Private eBike Tours for smaller groups are priced at $50/bike + $75/hr per guide ($225 min. guide fee). Groups with 8+ riders are $79 each. Pricing is for a 3 hour tour starting and ending at one of our three rental shops. For those wishing a ride longer than 3 hours, we simply bill $75/hr per guide for additional time. For those wishing to set up an off-site tour, please email us for pricing. Pricing includes all taxes and booking fees, but not gratuity. Start times below are suggested, not set in stone:

Our Carmel-by-the-Sea eBike Tour is a relaxed-pace, beginner-friendly tour. Running daily at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM, we cover approximately 10 miles over 2.5 hours.  It starts at our shop in The Carmel Crossroads Shopping Center.

• We make frequent stops to check out fairy-tale cottages, get an engaging history lesson, and enjoy breathtaking ocean views. 
• This tour is best for smaller groups (12 riders or less) as it takes lots of turns weaving through the town.  
• We can accommodate up to 30 riders, but with larger groups we modify our route to be a little easier to follow along.

Our Intermediate 17 Mile Drive eBike Tour runs daily at 9:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 3:30 PM.  This is our most popular tour. It starts at our 17 Mile Drive shop at 2106 Sunset Drive, just outside the Pacific Grove entrance to Pebble Beach.

• The route, entirely within Pebble Beach, is about 16 miles total.  It runs about half in bike lanes and half on a road with a 25 mph speed limit.  After the Lone Cypress and Ghost Trees, we stop at the Pebble Beach Lodge where people can explore for a bit and grab coffee or gelato.  Sometimes private tours will budget additional time for getting lunch at one of the restaurants at the Pebble Beach Lodge.
• This tour is good for larger groups as it’s an easy route to follow and has many large pullouts.
• We can accommodate up to 100 riders with enough advance notice.  We would have multiple guides for a large group (one guide per 10-12 people is typical).   For larger groups, we suggest breaking up into groups of 12 or fewer with a guide assigned to each group.  This seems to give everyone the best “personalized” experience.

Our Family-Friendly 17 Mile Drive eBike Tour is Ideal for extra large groups and for people with more limited cycling experience.  It runs daily at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM, starting at our Cannery Row location.

• We follow the ocean for 8 miles to Bird Rock in Pebble Beach, where we take a break before returning.  We accommodate the pace of the slowest rider, ensuring a leisurely and enjoyable experience, covering the route in 2.5 hours. This ride begins on the Monterey Coastal Recreational Trail and continues in a bike lane adjacent to the road, with a short segment on a shared road. 
• This location begins at our largest rental shop and has the most “room” for setup and test rides (100 riders is the largest that we’ve had yet).
• This is also a good location for those who would like an extended tour.  We often lead 4 hour private tours from here all the way to the Pebble Beach Lodge and back.  

For any of the above tours, we can modify the route to be a one-way ride between shops.  Most often people do this if they want to see both Carmel and 17 Mile Drive.  We recommend beginning at one of our Pacific Grove locations and ending at our Carmel location.  We charge an additional $20 per rider for this option (return bike fee).  Transportation for the riders back to the start point is not included in this price.   Smaller groups often Uber back.  Larger groups typically have their own transportation already set up.

For more advanced riders, we also offer a gravel ride in Big Sur:

Our Old Coast Road eBike Tour is a 9 to 13 mile tour running daily at flexible times (10:30 and 2:30 are typical).

• We start at Andrew Molera State Park and ride on a dirt/gravel road into the backcountry of Big Sur.  
• For most groups we ride about 6.5 miles before we turn around (at a steep, rocky section of road) and return along the same route.  
• The ride takes about 2 hours (or 2.5 hours if we do an optional hike through the redwoods down to the Little Sur River).
• For groups with more advanced riders, we can also set up a ride that continues on this road until it pops out at Bixby Bridge.  Riders will have the option of riding across Bixby bridge if they like.  For this option we always need to discuss the group’s transportation needs.  Most often groups who chose this option have their own transportation drop them off at the start point and pick them up at Bixby Bridge.  We handle picking up the bikes at Bixby for no additional fee.  However, we can arrange transportation of the riders back to the start point for an additional fee.
• For groups of 2-4 riders, our pricing is $250 per person.  
• For groups of 5-6 riders, $220 per person.
• For groups of 7-8 riders, $200 per person (plus 20% gratuity).
• For groups of 9-10, $175 per person (plus 20% gratuity). 
• For groups of 11-24, $150 per person (plus 20% gratuity).
• If groups need transportation to the start point (or from Bixby Bridge) we can arrange that for a fee.

For groups with experience road cycling, we also offer electric bike tours on the highway in Big Sur.  We don’t end up doing a lot of these tours since most people opt for a “less-trafficked” option after discussing.  But for groups with seasoned road cyclists, this is a once-in-a-lifetime treat.  We always follow with a support vehicle, extra bikes, and extra batteries.  Prices vary with the group and its needs.

All our tours include numerous stops for photos, exploration, and enjoying the beautiful beaches.  If the tide is low, we often go tide-pooling.  Our guides love to share their passion for how uniquely amazing our coastline truly is!

Private Tour Policy:

The RadRover, with its front suspension and bigger wheels, is our smoothest ride. It’s the “Cadillac” of electric bikes, in our opinion. The RadMini is more like a sports car. It has more torque, accelerates faster than other bikes, and offers a little rougher ride. The RadCity Step-Thru is best for those who like a more upright riding position, as it offers swept-back handlebars. It accelerates a bit slower than the RadRover, but it boasts the same top speed and is a very smooth ride.

Want to pile some kids on the back? We suggest you take the RadWagon, an electric cargo bike with room for you and up to 120 lb of your precious cargo.

Riders shorter than 5’4″ are usually happiest on the RadCity Step-Thru or RadMini. If you’re 5’2″, super athletic, and ride a lot, then you might prefer the RadRover. Just keep in mind that you’ll barely straddle the bar when you stop.

If you’re taller than 6’4”, the RadRover will still work. However, you may want to consider our RadCity 20” frame bike for maximum comfort.

The 17-Mile Drive Tour is 21 miles round trip, but we make plenty of stops for photographs and a chance to rest. The Coastal Montery Tour is 15 miles and involves an optional ride along the sand. The Big Sur Old Coast Road Tour spans 10 miles and requires the most amount of effort, as it involves some steep climbs and requires you to pedal. The Carmel-by-the-Sea Tour also spans 10 miles.

While riding an e-bike is easier than a standard bike, we still require that you know how to ride a bike before joining us on a tour.

If you don’t want to pedal at all, and you’d like to ride more than 20 miles, consider renting an extra battery for $10. While a RadCity Step-Thru can take a 150 lb rider to Carmel and back (30 miles round trip) with battery to spare, it’s not uncommon for people who don’t pedal at all to enjoy the ride so much that they go further than planned. If so, you can either pedal back or call us for an in-ride battery swap. We bill these swaps at $50 per hour drive time plus $10 for the battery, so we recommend planning appropriately.

There are a lot of variables (i.e. bike, the rider, the terrain, etc.), so be sure to call us for advice! We’re happy to make your ride as easy (or as difficult) as you’d like.

Unfortunately, the bike lanes in Big Sur disappear in places, most notably near cliffs and blind corners. Therefore, Highway 1 is for seasoned road cyclists only.

We do offer early morning or sunset tours in the more remote parts of Big Sur for groups of experienced road cyclists. However, when there’s very little traffic, the few cars that are on the road move pretty fast. Please contact us if you’re interested so that we can discuss the details.

Our minimum age for solo riders on the electric bike tours is 14.
Renters between the ages of 12-14 can ride eBikes if we govern the top-speed lower and they demonstrate riding competence in our parking lot.
Children younger than 14 can ride in tandem with a parent on one of our tandem eBikes.
All riders under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian and be accompanied by an adult.

Please give us a call if you’d like to plead the case for your child. If you drop by at least an hour before your reservation, we can have your child do a test run to prove that they are a responsible rider before you commit. If you arrive after your reservation time and your child is unable to handle the bike, we may have to still charge you for the reservation.

The maximum weight for the RadRover, RadCity, and RadMini bikes is 275 lb. The RadWagon has a total weight limit of 350 lb, with a maximum of 120 lb on the back. If you’re riding with kids, please note that the toddler seat is for children up to 48.5 lb, while the tag-along bike can hold up to 85 lb.

The 17-Mile Drive Tour, Coastal Montery Tour, and Carmel-by-the-Sea Tour are suitable for beginners. The Big Sur Old Coast Road Tour is for those with an intermediate level of fitness, as it features some steep climbs and descents on loose gravel that require you to pedal.

Water for the tour will be provided, and we have some snacks available. However, since everyone has their own preferences, we recommend that you bring your own as well.

Yes! We have a combined 30 years of experience, and all our guides are trained in proper road safety. Prior to embarking on your bikes, we will provide a safety briefing and make sure you understand how to use your e-bike. In addition, the guide carries a satellite communication device on the Old Coast Road Tour to keep in touch with our HQ throughout the ride.

Bike problems are rare, but if you do encounter an issue with your bike while on a tour, we will send someone to swap out the problem bike for a replacement. If you want a ride back, whether while renting your own bike or on a tour, we can provide that at no charge as well. Please note that we will never bill you for the time you spend waiting for a backup bike, nor do we charge to replace a flat tire.

If you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, we will happily offer you a full refund. Please note that for groups of six or more, cancellations must be at least a week in advance.

We also offer a satisfaction guarantee. If you don’t enjoy your tour, let us know and we’ll make it right with a refund. However, it doesn’t happen often – typically the only complaints are that people don’t want the tour to end!

Yes. Every rider will need to fill one out. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign for them.

Regarding tours in rainy weather, we’re always on top of the weather forecast. If heavy rain is expected, we’ll inform you two days in advance and offer the option of a full refund. However, if the forecast predicts light rain or scattered showers, we usually proceed with the tour. We provide all the necessary equipment for a safe and enjoyable ride. Our experience has shown that a bit of rain often adds a unique charm to the tour, revealing the natural beauty of the area in a different light. Rest assured, rain or shine, our team is committed to delivering a fantastic tour experience.

Additionally, we make exceptions for rentals that are due back in bad weather. If this happens, we will call you the day before and either meet you to check the bike back in or do a free extension until the rain is done.

There are bathroom spots every 30-45 minutes on the 17-Mile Drive Tour, Coastal Montery Tour, and Carmel-by-the-Sea Tour. For the Big Sur Old Coast Road Tour, we provide portable toilet kits that include all necessities, such as a bag for waste disposal, toilet paper, and wet wipes.

In 2024, the BSA Carmel and BSA Monterey (Cannery Row) shops will be closed on Christmas. The BSA 17 Mile Drive Shop will be open from 9-5 on Christmas.

Yes, we have both Yepp Maxi child seats and enclosed trailers for young ones. They will need to wear a helmet. The biggest risk for really young children is falling asleep with the helmet on their head and hurting their neck.

With children under 2 years of age, you’re welcome to do either a private eBike Tour or an eBike rental (either with a trailer or Yepp Maxi Seat). That way we can make sure the pacing is good for a toddler!

Our public tours do a 30-45 minute stretch without stopping on one portion, and that’s where kids often fall asleep. So for safety, our minimum age for our public tours is 2 years old.

We provide either digital or paper maps of our tour route (and we are also beta-testing a scavenger hunt that parallels our tour). So if you decide to ride on your own, it’s easy to follow along with our recommended route!

If you decide to book a rental online, at the final stage of checkout, you will have the option of adding a Yepp Maxi Seat for $10 or a Trailer for $29 extra.

If you decide to book a private tour online, just book for the adults initially. We can add your children later at a reduced price: $49 per child under age 12 or $59 for children 12+.
